We’re very excited to feature Kyla Flax - a Philadelphia-based stylist for Anthropologie, mom of 2, and all-around creative spirit. From wagon walks to school and taco nights at home to imaginative box-building play, Kyla shares how her family finds joy in the everyday...

Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your family. 

Hi I’m Kyla, my husband Josh and I have two kids, Finn (4) and Ulla (2). 

Where do you call home? 

We live in Philadelphia PA.

What does a typical day look like for you and your family? 

I wake up super early (it’s my me time), make a full breakfast and then wake the kids. We eat and get ready for school. On warm days we walk in our wagon to school! Mom and Dad head into the studio (I am in charge of Styling for Anthropologie and Josh is a freelance Photographer). We all work/go to school then pick up the kids around 5. When we get home it’s a mad dash for bath, dinner, and a mandatory 20 minute story time. 

Please tell us about your favorite family rituals. 

My favorite ritual is our story time before bed each day. Its a non negotiable in our house and responsible for fostering so many imaginative play moments. 

What does your family like cooking/eating together? 

We are big taco fans in this house, we all help with the toppings and it’s something we all can eat together.

What is your favourite outdoor activity? 

The playground makes them the most happy. We always make sure to get outside walks in the wagon or playground time on the weekends.

What creative activities do you like to do with your children? 

Building out of boxes( and trust me there are many) Finn is our lead designer, orchestrating fire trucks, garbage trucks, forklifts, tunnels, excavators all out of boxes. 

What is the best motherhood advice you have ever been given and why?  

You have to prioritize yourself. Motherhood is self sacrificing in so many ways and it is so hard to stop and give yourself permission to do something for you. I am still working on this one, but know that I am a better mom when my own cup is full.

What surprised you the most about being a parent? 

How quickly they absorb information. They are so adaptable and so curious to put things together. One minute they are asking you a question and then the next they hit you with “Mom I’m Dehydrated” 

What is your special everyday luxury that you just can’t live without? 

Josh makes me a latte every morning. When he is out of town I realize I am completely dependent on fancy frothing. 

How do you like styling your Vild – House of Little pieces? 

I love the striped and colorful pieces back to a graphic tee and jeans. I really like how vibrant and playful the pieces are, and so well made.

What do you like about Vild, or find different from other childrenswear brands?

You instantly know these pieces feel well crafted and special. I’m so glad I have two kids so Finn’s clothes can pass onto Ulla!
