Sustainability

A highly considered approach to design, and everything we do at Vild - House of Little is rooted in the strong belief that a beautiful product isn’t only a physical object, it’s a whole story. From the beginning, we created a brand which was designed mindfully. All of our clothes and accessories are ethically made in Europe and Fairtrade factories in India from eco-friendly materials.

We take time to ensure that every stage of the process is highly considered: from the very inception of a garment (not over sampling or over producing) to a strong focus on innovation and biodiversity, ensuring wastewater is treated to make it pollution free, and exploring the end-life and beyond of our clothes.

Certification for transparency and traceability is also very important to us. We are proud to use fabrics which are GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, with organisations that are SA-8000/ BSCI certified and to work with FAIRTRADE, UPMADE, BCI and OCS partners

Innovation/ Biodiversity                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Since launch, we have worked with eco qualities, such as Tencel™ and LENZING™ ECOVERO™, fabrics made from a natural wood material. We have also produced a collection with an innovative material called SeaCell™. This is a fibre made from renewable resources where seaweed is washed, grounded and carefully incorporated into a cellulous fibre.  It is a fibre which is carbon neutral and completely bio-degradable. Harvesting seaweed is gentle, selective and crucially, a sustainable process. These are all conscious materials which care for delicate baby skin and our world in equal measure.

Our high-performance dyes are made from a patented technology synthesized from non-edible agricultural or herbal industries’ waste such as leaves and shells  that leave any edible part still available for food consumption. This technology helps to reduce the negative impact on the water footprint, and preserve human wellness, natural resources and climate change compared to conventional synthetic dyes.

The natural plant dyes we use include natural Palmetto, a leaf plant dye, Beetroot plant, Bitter Orange, Madder and Meyna Laxiflora plant dyes.  We are also incorporating mineral dyes into our collection. Natural earth pigments taken from different areas in Europe are mineral substances found in nature and exert minimal environmental impact.  The process time is much less than that of conventional dying which in turn saves on water and energy usage whilst fabric strength is retained.

Circularity - Life Cycle                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Thinking about life cycle and authentic sustainability is paramount - the ‘thread’ which runs through the behaviour of our business. This means developing a considered range plan with as little waste, small batch and low-energy production or working with our partners to reduce energy, wastage and recycle/ upcycle any offcuts and deadstock.

It also includes working with experienced garment technicians to design items which are trans-seasonal, unisex and have highly considered specifications to allow for longevity in a garment. To further explore longevity, we only work with high quality materials and finishes such as buttons, zips, snappers and thread that will last.  We also encourage our customers to repurpose, reuse or donate their clothes.

Upcycling production makes the most of textile leftovers by redesigning the products and the production processes. It leads to a significant reduction of leftover materials and therefore reduces production inefficiencies. In forthcoming collections this year, we are designing with recycled and deadstock fabric qualities and we currently upcycle offcuts to create new objects such as our crafted Teddy Bears and Bunny Rabbits. We are excited to work with sustainable partners on innovative ways to repurpose new objects.

People                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Building a work culture which celebrates meaningful relationships with suppliers and working with socially and economically challenged communities is also very important to us.  We remain committed to being responsible for the next generation.
